Twelve Years of Transformation
A Message From our President
Greetings from the Black Rock Riverside Alliance Board of Directors!
It has been a little while since our neighbors heard from me so I thought I would check in with an update on some of our progress during 2023.
Over the past several months, the BRRA has been fast at work getting our new headquarters, the Black Rock Harbor Center, up to its “fully armed and operational” status. We have tenants, including key partnerships with like-minded nonprofits, and are actively running programming and community events from our very own space. These efforts run in tandem with our curation of the other community spaces under our charge, including regular events at Market Square Park and the maintenance of our beloved community gardens.
In terms of programming, the Alliance successfully recertified Erie County and the City of Buffalo as NWF Wildlife Habitats, as part of our ongoing support of the Habitat Project. We also continue to support Niagara County and other neighboring counties in their certification efforts. Efforts to implement our most recent Main Street Grant revitalization initiative are in full swing and should wrap up this summer. In the meantime, we had time to hold an outrageously fun meat raffle, participated in the Give716 event for 7/16 Day, and are planning the Second Annual River Rock Run in the fall.
If you are interested in getting involved please let us know. We are always on the lookout for new volunteers at every level, especially more community volunteers to help maintain the gardens and particularly engaged (or vocal) stakeholders at the Board Committee and Board of Directors level. Your help is greatly needed and appreciated!”
